A Change Gon' Come
To my brothers, sisters. To my son.
As the sun rises on this day, I know your heart may be burdened. As we walk along this beach of existence, the waves of inequity crash upon our lives, engulfing us in uncertainty. The plight of some will be left bereft of life, as we wander dazed from a history that has only told us a forsaken truth: we are not welcome here.
Though our hearts forgive, our minds are addled by the actions of some who are not yet ready for growth. Those who cannot see beyond the color of skin, or accept that time tells a terrible tale — that though we inherently should believe that all lives matter, my life, my Black life, does not matter if you are scared or uncomfortable.
This is not a sentiment held by all. But to the aforementioned, I say: by any means necessary… a change gon’ come.
