Loss, But We Haven't Lost
Yesterday I had the opportunity to witness a friend achieve a great moment in life — receiving an award for her excellence. Being recognized for all the amazing things she has done in and around her community, changing her world and others’ for the better.
I sat filled with honor witnessing her receive this award. To see a friend of so many years come so far, having had moments where loss brought her to her knees, and to see her stand tall and victorious. Her biggest role model, her mother, would have been so immensely proud of her. I know her heart wanted to share this moment with her. How beautiful that would have been.
But there is a lesson in this. We suffer loss, but we have not lost. The perseverance to continue on when the path gets rough. To trudge through the deepest depths of our pains and conquer the mountains in front of us. This is the win. These are the opportunities I speak of — the opportunity to take our loss and honor it with successes.
Today the world seems like we are losing so much. But please remember: we have suffered loss, but we haven’t lost.
